Today the museum took delivery of three sections of wooden (elm) water pipe excavated in George Square, Edinburgh (laid c. 1780). Two of the sections are joined together. The photograph taken at Heriot-Watt University, shows the joined section on the left and on the rightis the single section which shows the wrought iron band hammered in at the end to help secure the join without fracturing the wood.
These items are not yet on display as they are currently drying out slowly under cover to best preserve the wood.
