Description

‘Brunsviga’ Model 20 mechanical calculator (c.1960). It was in production from 1934 to 1963. A desk-top mechanical calculator for multiplication and division.

The model 20 has a capacity of 12x11x20, indicating the number of digits in the input register (at the top), the revolution counter (in the middle), and the result register (at the bottom).

The model in the collection has a late serial number and was probably manufactured around 1960. It weighs 12 kg. Machines like these were in universal use wherever number crunching was required.

It was used in the City Engineer’s Department of the City of Edinburgh Corporation.
