Description

Bench (or frame) micrometer in brass by Troughton & Simms with eyepiece. Fitted wooden box. Capable of measuring items up to 2 in (50.8 mm).

Image 1 shows the micrometer measuring the diameter of a UK pound coin. Image 2 shows the measuring scale and the vernier (below the eyepiece) to provide a more precise measurement.

The micrometer was purchased by Professor Roland Paxton in Fochabers (Moray) on 25 September 1998.
