Steel letter opener inscribed “ASCE Honor and Awards Program”. Likely to have been presented to Professor Paxton for winning the History and Heritage Award by the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) in 2002. The award recognised his teaching work and publications that have helped the public gain a better understanding of civil engineering and for his work as chairman of the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Panel for Historic Engineering Works. Professor Paxton was the first non-US citizen to receive this award.

The letter opener belonged to Professor Roland Paxton.
