c.1879

Description

Two postcards of the first Tay Bridge by J. Valentine, Photographer, Dundee. Undivided backs. These date from 1878 or 1879.

Both views are looking north: one is a general view and the other focuses on the southern approach where two trains can be seen on the bridge.

The company grew into the major and multi-generational business known as Valentine & Sons that continued long after the death of James Valentine in 1879. The company was sold to Hallmark Cards in 1980.

These postcards were collecteed by Professor Roland Paxton.
