Description

Elcometer manufactured by Elcometer Instruments Ltd of Manchester, UK. Fitted leather pouch.

An Elcometer is a precision inspection instrument used to measure the thickness of non-ferrous coatings (eg paint) on metals and concrete.

It operates by holding the instrument at right-angles to surface to be measured placing the two contact points on the surface pushing down a small button on the casing to release the pointer on the dial. When the pointer comes to rest it will indicate the thickness of the coating in thousands of an inch.

This instrument was used in the Concrete Laboratory at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK.
