The credit for the design and erection of the Bell Rock Lighthouse has been generally attributed to Stevenson, not Rennie. In a paper prepared by Professor Roland Paxton from contemporary documents, he sheds new light on the relationship between Rennie and Stevenson. It suggests Rennie’s design changes and site superintendence were pivotal in the construction of the lighthouse which has withstood the might of the North Sea for over 200 years. To view this paper click John Rennie and the Bell Rock Lighthouse.
