Following a visit to the University of Portsmouth by David McGuigan, the museum received as a donation of thirty-eight survey instruments and other items which were being disposed of. The collection includes a number of levels and theodolites (with Hilger & Watts well represented) as well as some more modern items including a Leica Wild GPS System. The collection also includes some less usual items including an alidade by ER Watts & Son (c.1939) for use on a plane table (see image), a “Karti” plane table by Carl Zeiss (c.1970) and a small pocket level of unknown manufacture but retailed by Lawes Rabjohns, London.
