Description
Cast iron plate rail (c.1806) found beside the Caledonian Canal and most probably formed part of a temporary railway used to transport spoil and materials during its construction. This item was found (c.1980) in a field adjacent to the canal near Moy by Professor Roland Paxton. A number of plate railways (tramways) were built to carry quarried materials to the construction sites.
