Description

Framed invitation card to attend the Opening of the Forth Road Bridge by Her Majesty the Queen on Friday 4 September 1964. The recipient is unknown.

The text on the card is:

“ALL PLACES TO BE OCCUPIED BY 10.30 a.m. / Admit to Bridge Carriageway / The Chairman and Members of the Forth Bridge Joint Board request the pleasure of your company at the Opening of the Forth Road Bridge by HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh on Friday, 4th September 1964, at 11a.m.”

Some 16,000 people were invited to the opening ceremony and it said that 50,000 lined the Forth to see the event. It was the world’s fourth longest bridge when opened.
