Description

Nut and bolt from Bedford Place cast iron bridge Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Nut dimensions: 2.375 in square x 2 in. Bolt dimensions: 2.5 in x 1.375 in square with head 1.25 in. Used for securing cast iron members. The date of manufacture of the nut and bolt is unknown. The bridge carries the road (Belmont Place) over a former wooden rail waggonway. The waggonway dates back to 1768 with the wooden rails being replaced with cast iron rails in 1810.
