An invitation to attend ceremonies on 24th May 2008 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge, New York, USA, then the world’s longest span.

The form of the invitation replicates the invitations issued in 1883 for the actual opening. It reads:

The Trustees of the
New York and Brooklyn Bridge
reqest the honor of the presence of
Roland Paxton MBE Phd DEng CEng FICE FRSE
at the
Opening Ceremonies
to take place on Thursday: May twenty fourth at two o’clock PM

The members of the committees below were those in place at the time of the original opening ceremonies in 1883.

In an associated event Professor Paxton had delivered a paper in New York.

The invitation is held within a perspex holder and ceramic support.
