Description
Tally counters (x2) manufactured by English Numbering Machines (c.1975). The mechanical counting mechanism is contained in a steel case. A short chain attached to the tally can be used to secure it to a finger.
Tally counters such as these were widely used to count traffic. These tallies were often purchased with more than one tally counter fixed together to form 2-, 3-, 4-, or 5-gang tallies for use where – for example – different vehicle types were being recorded.
In 1975 almost all tally counters were mechanical. By the time of this donation in 2021, electronic digital tally counters are manufactured along with mechanical models.
