Description
Part of a collection of drawing instruments belonging to Dr Steve Wallis (see here).
Imperial triangular scale manufactured by AW Faber Castell.
The donor, Dr Steve Wallis, writes:
This was used by my father, Douglas Roy Wallis (1923-2014), possibly from the early 1940s and certainly to the early 1960s. He lived in Ashton-under-Lyne (a few miles east of Manchester) and worked his way up to be a draughtsman. At some stage during WW II he was involved with the design of machine tools for the maintenance of Spitfires. For some, or all, of the 1950s and 1960s he worked for Head Wrightsons. When they closed their small office in Sheffield (early 1960s), he re-trained as a secondary school teacher and taught at several schools in Sheffield. I remember him using the scale when marking technical drawing and metalwork exercises.
