Description

A hexagonal steel nut used in conjunction with a pin to secure the suspended truss to the Forth Bridge cantilevers. Made and kept as a spare.

The nut has a diameter of 348 mm and the central threaded hole has a diameter of 207 mm. It is 100 mm wide with a 4mm upstand in the centre. One one of the six faces there is a threaded hole of 19 mm diameter for a locking bolt.

This item is related to the pin and washers – see items 2013/020 and 2013/022 respectively.

This item is on loan from the National Railway Museum, York.
