An item from a collection of papers etc held by the donor relating to the Forth Bridge (2014/003):

Photograph of Royal Family signatures in the Forth Bridge Visitors Book dated 23 August 1884 (Alexandra, Albert Edward, Edward, George, Louise, Victoria and Maud).

For Royal watchers, Albert Edward and Alexandra were the Prince and Princess of Wales (becoming King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1901 upon the death of Queen Victoria). The other signatures relate to their children:

• Prince Albert Victor (known as Edward) (1864-1892)
  Prince George (1865-1936) later to become King George V in 1910 upon the death of his father KIng Edwad VII
  Princess Louise (1861-1931) later to become Duchesss of Fife
  Princess Victoria (1868-1935)
  Princess Maud (1869 – 1938) later to become  Queen of Norway as the wife of King Haakon VII

The photograph of this page of the Visitors Book was taken of one of items loaned to the Forth Bridges Visitor Centre by John Fowler’s grandchildren when the centre was opened in 1990. The items were returned to the family in late 1990.
