On 11 1881 June The Forth Bridge Railway Company was established jointly by the North British Railway, the Midland Railway and the North Eastern Railway and Great Northern Railway. The company was named in the Transport Act 1947 as one of the bodies to be nationalised and so became part of British Railways on 1 January 1948.
