c.1930

SKU: 2022/003 Categories: , ,

Description

A 14½ in level by Negretti and Zambra, London with tribrach and additional eye-piece. Three-screw levelling. Wooden box (strap missing). The level was repaired and adjusted by Stanley on 10 October 1961.

The level was owned by the donor’s father Darrell RP Evans BA (1932-1998). He was an engineer specialising in mechanical engineering but with a passionate interest in all areas of engineering and design. After 35 years in industry, Darrell transitioned into teaching engineering at a further education college. Over the course of many years, he collected various engineering tools and equipment, both small and large and enjoyed making sure they were used. It is unclear exactly when the Negretti and Zambra level came into Darrell’s possession but certainly since the 1950s. Whilst not used as part of his job, the level was used in other projects he was involved in and also for general interest.
