Description

Sample of sandstone removed from the Laigh Milton Viaduct on the Kilmarnock & Troon Railway. It was probably quarried in 1809 from the Third Part Quarry one mile east of the viaduct. The sample shows fissuring which was susceptible to weather damage which was the main cause of the generally poor state of the viaduct.
