SKU: 2023/016.1 Categories: , ,

Description

Original wrought iron nut from the Almond Aqueduct (or Lin’s Mill Aqueduct) that carries the Union Canal over the River Almond west of Ratho near Edinburgh. The aqueduct was built 1820-1822.

The aqueduct carries an iron trough and is 130 m long carrying the canal 23 m above the River Almond. This nut (with a bolt) secured two adjacent troughs together at flanges and was retrieved c.1977 during renovation works.

The iron was subjected to tests by Dr Colin Stove of Adrok Ltd, Edinburgh (Ref: 1.).
